Holistic Look at Childhood Eczema

Eczema is not just a skin condition - it is a symptom of much deeper imbalances.

Eczema is one of the most common childhood skin conditions, and if you’re a parent dealing with it, you know how frustrating it can be. The endless cycle of itching, rashes, and flare-ups often leaves parents searching for answers—yet conventional treatments typically focus only on managing symptoms rather than addressing the root cause.

A holistic approach to childhood eczema looks beyond the skin to understand what’s happening inside the body. If you’re wondering why your child’s eczema keeps coming back and what you can do differently, this is for you.

Why does eczema happen?

Eczema is often linked to deeper imbalances within the body. Some key factors that can contribute to eczema include:

Genetics & epigenetics – Eczema often runs in families or there are other health issues, traits and toxins that have been passed down through generations and caused eczema to this baby.

Gut health – A compromised gut microbiome can lead to inflammation and skin issues. It can be affected by birth, processed food and formula, antibiotics and many other factors.

Food sensitivities – Certain foods may trigger or worsen flare-ups.

Environmental toxins – Harsh soaps, synthetic fabrics, and household chemicals can be irritating.

Immune system imbalances – Eczema is often connected to immune dysregulation and inflammatory responses triggered by pharmaceuticals, birth practices, excess sanitisation etc.

Emotional trauma and stress – Stress in children (or even during pregnancy) can impact skin health.

Other factors – Parasites, mold, MCAS, histamine intolerance, water and air quality as well as limited natural microbial exposure also influence the child’s microbiome and immune system development.

Understanding these root causes is essential for long-term healing, rather than just temporary relief.

What can you do?

A holistic approach to eczema doesn’t rely on just creams or dietary changes—it’s about supporting the body as a whole. Healing eczema needs to reflect the complexity of the condition. Some foundational steps include:

Nourishing from within – Supporting gut health through breastfeeding, pre- and probiotics, nutrient-dense foods, and avoiding common irritants.

Healing the skin barrier – Using natural, chemicals free, soothing oils and remedies to restore and protect the skin.

Reducing toxin exposure – Swapping out harsh detergents, soaps, and personal care products.

Addressing emotional wellbeing – Stress and emotional factors play a bigger role than we often realise.

Homeopathy to the rescue!

While optimal nutrition and skin care are the cornerstones of the quest to heal your child’s eczema, they are often not the panacea. Very rarely eczema can be cured by just one approach or one remedy.

Most cases are much more complex with many layers and contributing factors. The worse the skin symptoms are, the deeper is the condition and the deeper we need to go to restore optimal health.

Homeopathy is the only way of curing the inherited tendencies. And healing those is important not only for this particular child but also for future generations.

If you want to give homeopathy a go, check out my wellness plans here.
